THE REGATES

The regatta at the Gaou Bénat is an ancient tradition that dates back to the 20th century!

Indeed, from the early hours of the Yacht Club du Gaou Bénat in July 1966, intrepid competitors competed on the water of the Bay of Gaou. They were putting their 420, 470, Ponant, 505, Flying Dutchman or other Caravelle in the water to fight uncompromisingly.

They set the cables and sails, advanced the mast foot, added cleats, played the listening rail, soaped the hull ...

Today, nothing has changed and some of these helmsmen and trapeze artists (who have taken a few decades of experience) still face the two generations that follow them.

The rules are always as simple as ever: you have to respect the starting line and go around the buoys in the right direction! The more seasoned try to win a place or two by claiming about a buoy affected or a refusal of priority, but the jury composed of a single monitor never accedes to their request.

And so for more than 50 years, at every regatta, there is a winner and 10 or 20 competitors who "have had no luck" ... Fortunately, for half a century, the YCGB has been able to predict enough Champomy and rosé to comfort everyone.

Thus the objective of the Gaou Bénat regatta is achieved as it aims above all to bring together the residents of the Domain, to create an animation on the beach and to create new friendships, not to mention to stimulate the spirit of competition that sleeps in everyone Club members.

In 2019 the YCGB has been on the podium three times, windsurfing, dinghy and cruise ship.

In 2020, unfortunately, the epidemic forced us to cancel our regattas.

For 2021 we are awaiting the evolution of government measures for events of more than 10 people: we will post the program of the next regattas at the club's bungalow, if the health situation allows us.
